Winter 2021 Talent Community Update

We can scarcely believe it’s already halfway through 2021 - the team have been busier than ever in the first 6 months of the year. With relative freedom of movement here in New Zealand, we’ve been able to attend conferences and hold events again. We love getting face time with clinicians, as well as catching up with our Lumino teams all around the country.

In March we relaunched our careers site updating our dedicated pages, including info for Immigrating Clinicians and a blog style approach to our news, events and info.

2021 Dental Debate

In April we launched our first ever “Lumino Presents” event – a Dental Debate with an Industry panel discussing “which is better for graduating clinicians – private or hospital?” organised for the final year BDS students with the help of the NZ Dental Students Association. We were delighted to create a space for new clinicians to hear from their established peers about life and careers post-qualification.

We had a fantastic moderator and a talented, passionate group of clinicians debating for either “Team Hospital” or “Team Private”. Incredibly, when the audience were given the opportunity to decide the winner; it was a tie.

Later in the year we will announce the topic for the 2022 “Lumino Presents” event, and we look forward to discussing another hot topic with New Zealand’s newest dental professionals.

NZDHA & NZDOHTA Conference 2021

The NZDHA/NZDOHTA conference was held at the Dunedin Centre on Friday 30 April – Saturday 1 May. We regularly attend and support the conference and this was a particularly special milestone - celebrating 100 years of the NZ School Dental Service, and 25 years since the first class of dental hygienist graduated from Otago Polytechnic.

After the 2020 event cancellation due to COVID-19, it was fantastic to safely have such a large group of clinicians together again to learn, reconnect and celebrate success.

Special congratulations to the 2021 Award Winners:

  • Dental Therapist of the Year - Elizabeth Alice
  • Oral Health Therapist of the Year - Sheena McPhail
  • Dental Hygienist of the Year - Erin Campbell-Day
  • Dame Annette King Award for Excellence and Leadership in Oral Health - Helen Tane
